The week so far

Thursday, January 30th, 2003

So I haven’t written in a while, been busy with work and various other boring things, but the week is almost over so I thought I’d go over some of the highlights. One definite non-highlight was that 24 wasn’t on this tuesday. I automatically hate American Idol now for preemping two weeks of 24-y goodness. Work has been ok, as calm as can reasonably be expected for working with 3 and 4 year olds. And tomorrow we’re making waffles as a cooking project and putting ice cream and chocolate on them. Heehee they’ll go home all sugared up for the weekend. Bet the parents will love me for that!
At the moment the weekend is a blank slate; I’d like to start looking at houses if we’re going to buy within the next year, but I don’t know if Jon will be too thrilled about that. I night have to bribe him with a trip to Best Buy. We’ll see. Other than that a whole lotta nothing sounds pretty appealing. If we do anything scenic, there will be pics posted on mon or tues. Well its bedtime so I’ll cut this short, maybe I’ll write more tomorrow night if I feel ambitious

The Weekend

Sunday, January 19th, 2003

So this weekend was pretty uneventful. The most productive thing that we did was laundry. However, that was a good thing since we were completely clean sock-less, and now we have enough clean socks that we could wear two pairs at a time if we wanted. However, that would be silly so we probably won’t.
Jon got his good husband points this weekend, he took me to a stamp store and managed to endure for 1/2 an hour before he had to retreat to the Starbucks down the street. I was proud of him, I didn’t think he’d last ten minutes.
Other than that we didn’t do a whole lot.
The week ahead looks to be relatively boring as well…well, at least as boring as working with three- and four-year olds can be. There’s a police officer coming in on Wed. to talk to the kids, which they should like. Well, I should go and write out some bills before bedtime…I’ll write more tomorrow.

Yay for Friday

Friday, January 17th, 2003

So it’s Friday and Jon and I went out to dinner at Izzy’s, which is this kind of mediocre pizza buffet-type place. Anyways this really stupid family of people came in like 15 minutes before they closed, and the waiter said that they could have the whole buffet for cheaper beacuse they were closing soon. It was so absurd, the woman was like,”What? You close in fifteen minutes?” Like the concept of closing was totally foreign to her. She said it 3 or 4 times and I was ready to jump up and say, ” No stupid! Now its ten minutes!” And then the father insisted that they pray before getting their food. It was pretty funny. So that was our evening.
Work was pretty uneventful, although I did make the mistake of letting the kids put chocolate frosting and marshmallows on graham crackers for snack. Within like five minutes they had frosting everywhere but the ceiling. You shouldn’t have to put smocks on them for snack. They did like it though, so that was good. All the kids have been on this big superhero kick lately too. I had a 2 and a half year old girl come up to me today on the playground and say, “Miss Heather! There’s a monster chasing you! But it’s ok because I’m Batman to the rescue!” It was pretty amusing but she probably would have been offended if I’d laughed so I just said, “Thanks Batman, let me know if you see any more monsters.” Sometimes the most difficult part of my job is keeping a straight face.
We have no plans for the weekend; it’s been a busy week and it’ll be nice to just relax. However, it’s supposed to be in the high fifties and sunny tomorrow, so that might change. There are a couple of state parks that might be cool to hike around in. If we do anything cool, we’ll post pics on sunday night.

Sorry Adam No MacGyver Here

Wednesday, January 15th, 2003

So Jon and I just got back from dinner at Benihana (mmmm…teppan grill-y deliciousness) and I am most full of good food and sleepiness. Jonah, I agree with your comment that kids are really unpredictable, like yesterday mine were fine and today it was like whenever I gave them a direction it was like I was speaking swahili; all they did was look at me and then go back to doing what ever it was that they had been doing. But tomorrow is a new day, and I have a different group, so hopefully they’ll go back to actually comprehending what I’m saying. But I’m not holding my breath.
Jon said that my entries looked like big run-on sentences so I’m starting another paragraph, just to shut him up. Personally I just think he’s being picky because there aren’t any spelling mistakes like on his site.
So that’s it for now, sleepiness is getting the best of me. Night night.

My boring day

Monday, January 13th, 2003

So today was pretty uneventful…no major news to report. I watched an interesting show about gender on the national geographic channel. I figure watching something of substance tonight will cancel out Buffy the Vampire Slayer tomorrow, which is about as trashy as TV gets. Jonah, it was nice to hear from you, I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself in Japan. Jon and I would love to came visit if we can find the time and/or money. I’d love to go back to Japan although it would only make me realize how little I learned in 2 semesters of Japanese class. Oh well, at least I can ask where the bathroom is and say that the pork cutlets are delicious, which always comes in handy. And I remember most of the hiragana and katakana, which is helpful assuming there are none of those pesky Kanjii to mess me up. Work was fun today though, its amazing how easily kids can be entertained. I spend all this money on cool toys for them to play with and today they spent an hour playing with sandpaper and some pieces of wood I got free from Home Depot. Go figure. Next time I’ll hit the hardware store first and quit wasting time in Toys’r'Us. Well I should go do laundry since tomorrow is not in fact wear your bathrobe to work day and that’s about all that I have clean. G’night :)

First actual entry

Sunday, January 12th, 2003

So here’s my first actual entry…as evidenced by the title. I’ve never even kept a journal so this is a new experience but it should be interesting. I have to be careful not to make any typos because I was making fun of all the spelling errors on Jon’s blog and I know he’s waiting to jump on my shit for any mistakes I make…ahh the joys of married life :). Anyways we didn’t do a whole lot this weekend, just hung around the house mostly. We did go over to a friend’s house for dinner on Sat. night, which was a lot of fun. But since we’re lame, we were home by 11 pm. I’m glad we’re making some friends out here, but I miss all my friends from home (even though most of them are in Japan anyways) and I hope that we’ll see them sometime soon. Well its bedtime so night night sleep tight and don’t let the bed bugs bite (not even nibble!)
