People with too much free time

Monday, February 24th, 2003

So I’m browsing on Kazaa for music, and I happen to put in techno as a key word. Upon getting such results as a techno remix of the theme to Tetris, a redone version of the Brady Bunch theme, and a version of the Batman Beyond theme by Crystal Method, I’ve come to the conclulsion that there are a lot of people with a lot of time on their hands. It’s sad, I barely have time to get all the laundry done and these people are spending hours trying to make old annoying songs even more annoying. It boggles the mind. Curse them and their free time. If I had that much free time I’d do something more productive, like, oh I don’t know, making techno remixes of COOL songs. I don’t know, it’s just a thought. Well I know this is short, but I’m sleepy and the comfy flannel sheets are calling to me, so g’night for now.

I know I’m a slacker

So I haven’t written in like 2 weeks, I know…I’ve been busy and lacking ambition. On the other hand, not a whole lot has happened that’s worth writing about. I’ve been working, mostly. We took a field trip to a pizza restaurant, which was fun for the munchkins. Other than work I have just been relaxing, spending time with Jon, etc. Tonight we went to Sushi Track for dinner, which is Jon’s favorite restaurant. I figured I’d be nice and go there even though I’m not so into sushi because we went to my favorite restaurant (in Oregon, anyways) last night. Mmmm…Hayden’s. We dont have much on tap for this weekend, just spending some time together before Jon goes to Milwaukee next week. Well, looking over this, it’s pretty boring so I’ll keep it short. I might write more this weekend depending on that whole ambition thing. :)

Saturday Again

Saturday, February 8th, 2003

So I was right when I said I wouldn’t write until the weekend, but all my dear readers didn’t miss a whole lot. The week was pretty boring, work, tv, the usual. There was finally a new 24 on though, which was pretty kick ass. I’m going to do something different this time and talk about music instead of what I’ve been doing, so mom, if you’re reading this, you can go back to watching DVDs in your office instead of reading my blog. Since I know some of my friends are really into music, I thought I might let you know what music I’ve been into recently. For some strange reason, I’ve been listening to a lot of kinda mellow spacy music, I guess to counteract the chaos that is work. In my car CD case I have:

The Invisible Band - Travis
A Rush of Blood to the Head - Coldplay
Once More With Feeling - Buffy the Vampire Slayer (I’m a geek, deal with it!)
Jack Johnson - Brushfire Fairytales
Celtic Twilight Vol. 2 - Various

Also some mixed MP3 cds with a whole lotta different stuff. I actually got the Celtic Twilight CD for the kids at the preschool to listen to at naptime but its really awesome. I just need to wait until I’m not actually driving to listen to it ‘cuz it’ll put me to sleep. Anyways, all of the above CDs are really great, I recommend them if anyone is looking for mellow/relaxing-type music.

On a different note, Jon and I saw Shanghai Knights today. I was kind of disappointed. I really like Owen Wilson and I love Jackie Chan but Shanghai Knights was just missing something….I can’t put my finger on what though,…oh wait I can: the PLOT. That’s what it lacked. It’s a shame though, I had high expectations for it. Oh well, at least we only paid for a matinee instead of seeing it at night and feeling really gypped.

Well thats all for now, I think Jon and I are going to the coast tomorrow (assuming he reads this and gets the hint!) so I’ll write more tomorrow night.

Sunday Sunday Sunday

Monday, February 3rd, 2003

So today we drove around a couple of Portland suburbs looking at houses and came to the conclusion that there are two kinds of homes on the market. They are either A: Ugly, small, and in strange neighborhoods, or B: Too expensive.
Guess which kind we liked. So I guess short of winning the lottery, we might be waiting a little while to buy a place. S’ok though, I like where we’re living now so it should do for another year.
When we finally realized the futility of looking for homes, we came back to the apt and watched Pi, which is a pretty kick ass movie. As with Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, it wasn’t what I expected, but with Pi I was pleasantly suprised. It was really good. Serious, but not depressing. The acting was great and I thought the story was really thought-provoking. If I were Ebert and /or Roeper, I’d give it two thumbs up.
I was at the grocery store tonight and I found myself looking in the candy aisle, which I don’t usually do. I ended up getting Gobstoppers, which I haven’t had in like ten years, so hopefully they’ll be as good as I remember. But the main reason I mention this is that I also saw like ten kinds of Dots, which made me think of my friend Jonah, who couldn’t see a movie without a box of Dots to munch on. Jonah, do they have Dots in Japan? If not, send me your address and I’ll mail you some. Anyways, it made me think about how much I miss my friends from back home. Just so you know guys, I’m thinking about you and I wish you were here.
Ok, enough with the mushy stuff…The week ahead looks to be pretty uneventful overall, so if there isn’t another entry until Fri. or Sat., be glad that I didn’t bore you with lots of mundane stuff. Hope everyone has a good week :)

Why I Hate Cryptic Previews

Sunday, February 2nd, 2003

So we just went to see Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, and I’ve decided that I’m no longer going to take any preview I see at face value. I had heard nothing else about the movie, all I saw was the preview and it looked relatively light, interesting, etc….well I was WRONG! It was a good movie, but not even remotely light. It was one of those movies where none of the characters was really likeable, which made it difficult for me to get into it. And it had the added annoyance of Julia Roberts, who I don’t really care for. Overall it was really well done, but I don’t think I’ll be buying the DVD.
On a completely different note, in respose to the comment by Jon’s dad, no we don’t in fact have a secret baby…the little guy in the picture with Jon is my friend Kim’s cousin Derek. He’s a cutie, though, isn’t he?
Our day today was ok, we went and looked at houses, just to get an idea of what’s around in our price range. Apparently that would consist of houses with no bedrooms and only half a roof. All the really cool ones were like $240,000 which is a leetle out of our range right now. I saw a couple that I liked but Jon didn’t really go for them. We both agreed that the $250,000, four bedroom three bath house with the granite and stainless steel kitchen was pretty much what we wanted, unfortunately I don’t have any extra organs laying around that I can sell to buy it. Oh well, maybe we’ll win the lottery.
Apparently Jon bought a couple of new domain names last night (I swear, I leave him alone for a coupla hours, and he buys the internet!) so my blog might be moving soon, as soon as I get what the new address will be I’ll post it.
Well that’s all for tonight, I’ll probably write more tomorrow though.
