My day

Monday, May 26th, 2003

So Jon and I had a “me” day today and we went to the zoo. It was pretty cool. The Oregon Zoo is big; we were there for about 5 hours and our ambition ran out before the exhibits did. We went on this really cheesy simulation ride that “took us to the bottom of the ocean” where we were attacked by giant squid and other such scary things. It was amusing. On the downside, I managed to get sunburned despite the fact that it wasn’t overly sunny out. Oh well, that’s what I get for not wearing sunblock. I think Jon’s going to post the pics in our photo gallery (of the zoo, not the sunburn) of anyone is interested.

The Start of the Week

Monday, May 12th, 2003

So taday was pretty calm at work, for some reason the kids were really mellow. It was kinda strange, usually on Mondays there’s a lot of whining and general grouchiness while everyone gets back into the school routine after the weekend. But I’m not complaining, we got a lot accomplished.

Tonight for dinner Jon and I went to a sushi place we’d never been to before. It was set up like Sushi Track (where we usually go) but the dishes went around the track in little boats floating in water. They had a pretty good selection of sushi, tempura, etc, but Jon said the fish wasn’t as good, so it looks like we’ll be going back to Sushi Track as our standby.

My main goal for the night was to get my friend Katy’s birthday card made. It was funny, I had a certain type of card in mind but once I started working on it, but it came out completely different than how I’d originally thought. Oh well, it still turned out nice, and I think she’ll like it. It’s not like my usual type of cards, I didn’t use any metallic paper, or black anything, even ink. It’s all yellow and orange, which are 2 colors I barely use, but it was kind of fun to work in a different style. Ok, enough boring stuff, since none of the people who read this make cards…

Tomorrow is Buffy night, and Wed. night Jon and I are going to see The Matrix Reloaded, and I think Thurs. night I’m going to go see Holes, so I might not write again ’til Fri, but I hope everyone has a good week.

Friday Night at the Movies

Friday, May 9th, 2003

So after an incredibly shitty day at work, I was in the mood to do something fun tonight. We decided to go see “A Mighty Wind,” which is by the same people that did “Best in Show.” It was about a group of folk singers getting back together for a concert, which sounds like kind of a lame premise, but it was actually really funny. By the time I left the movie I was in a much better mood. After the movie Jon and I went to Starbucks (there’s a 24 hour one close to the theater) to get some coffee. It was weird, we walked in and there were all these people talking in sign language…I don’t know if there was some kind of event in the area or if it’s just a hangout for deaf people, but it was different. Just another strange event in the life of Heather (and Jon).

So Sunday is Mothers Day and I want to say “I love you” to my mom, in case she reads this…I’ll write again though before the end of the weekend.

Monday Night

Monday, May 5th, 2003

So I only had 6 kids today, as opposed to the usual 10, making for a pretty un-stressful time at work. Tonight Jon and I went to Borders to look around and I’m proud to say that I didn’t even buy any books. For me this is an amazing challenge, I love reading and am generally incapable of leaving a bookstore without at least one book. However, the thought of moving all my books in Nov. when our house is done is intimidating enough to curb any impulse to add to the collection. I’d just get books at the library but the Wilsonville Public Library kinda sucks, and I have major difficulty with returning books on time. Invariably I end up with overdue fines and then I might as well just buy the book in the first place.

On a different note, Jon and I are going to a wedding on Saturday; one of the women I work with is getting married. She’s almost exactly my age and she’s so excited, it’s really cute…I was thinking that it seems unreal that in July Jon and I will have our 4th anniversary, it doesn’t seem like we’ve been married that long. Although it seems like I’ve known him forever…anyways, although I know Melissa (the one who’s getting married) doesn’t read my blog, I hope that her and her future husband are as happy as Jon and I are.

Our Day

Sunday, May 4th, 2003

So today was pretty uneventful, we pretty much just hung around the house. Last night we went over to my friend Katy’s house for a Cinco de Mayo party, which was a lot of fun. We met some nice people although everyone was older than us by like 10 years. But the important thing was that they had good margaritas and homemade tortillas, so it worked out fine.

We watched the final match in the “King of Iron Chefs” tournament tonight, which was interesting. I just find Iron Chef to be such an entertaining show, I love the drama, and I like cooking shows anyways, so it’s perfect. It’s a shame the American version was so lame. Oh well, at least they’re rerunning all the old ones on Food TV.

A Sequel that Didn’t Suck

Saturday, May 3rd, 2003

So Jon and I went to see the new X-Men movie last night, and I was actually kind of impressed with it. According to Jon they bastardized a bunch of storylines to come up with the plot, but I thought that it was pretty well done. The effects were kinda cool, I especially liked how Nightcrawler teleported around. I won’t give away the main plot stuff but they definately paved the way for a third movie that has the potential to be really interesting. All this aside, I think that the best part of the movie was the new Matrix Reloaded preview, which was awesome.

Jon and I are going over to my friend Katy’s house for a Cinco de Mayo thing tonight, so that should be fun, I just have to think of a suitably Mexican-y dessert to bring.
