So Jon and I had a pretty busy weekend. It ended up being three days instead of two, since I felt pretty crappy on Friday and decided to call in sick. I spent the vast majority of the day on the couch asleep. I’ve had this sore throat/headcold thing for like 2 weeks now and it’s really starting to get annoying.
The only amusing thing on Friday happened at Izzy’s (a buffet restaurant) where we decided to go for lunch. Jon and I were up at the buffet area along with some men that looked like they were on their lunch break. I don’t know where they were from, but one of the men was seriously acting like the concept of a buffet was some revolutionary new idea, and kept making remarks like,”Wow! Mashed potatoes and chicken gravy!” and, “This is amazing!” Kinda made me wonder what he would do if something amazing actually happened to him, like winning the lottery, seeing a vision of Jesus in a container of Cheez Whiz, etc…his head would probably explode. I guess some people just don’t get out much.
Yesterday (Sat.) we went to the Clackamas County fair, which was fun. I got my recommended daily allowance of corn dogs and funnel cake, and got to drag Jon into the barns to look at all the smelly animals. I must say, he was a pretty good sport about the whole thing….maybe because he had a chance to eat giant pretzels and roasted corn. It wasn’t as big as the WI State Fair, but it was just a county-wide thing. The Oregon State Fair is at the end of the month; hopefully it’ll be more on par with what I’m used to seeing at a fair.
This morning we went to look at the house; it seems like almost everything is done, all that’s left to do is touch ups on the paint and the landscaping. It’s pretty amazing how fast it went up (even more amazing than mashed potatoes and chicken gravy, if you can imagine!) I think Jon’s putting some more pics up on the Internet. The only annoying thing was that we couldn’t actually go inside, they put the locks on the doors, and since we don’t technically own it yet, we were out of luck.
On the way to the house, my driver’s side mirror fell off of my truck. It had been getting steadily looser for a couple of months, and it finally just gave up. So we spent a fun-filled afternoon putting a new one on. I must say, it was more of a feat than I had anticipated; we pretty much had to take the whole door apart to get the new mirror on, but minus a couple of cuts, two trips to the auto parts store, one broken screw, and several bent back fingernails, we got it done relatively painlessly. I’m trying to think about the whole thing as an excercise in teamwork.
