Merry Christmas!

Thursday, December 25th, 2003

Just wanted to wish my family and friends a merry Christmas and if I don’t talk to you before then, a happy New Year as well. Jon and I are going to see Paycheck this afternoon, hopefully it’ll be good. After that, cleaning, since Julia is coming in tomorrow (yay! haven’t seen her in over a year) and the house is a disaster. I hope everyone got what they wanted for Christmas and I’ll write more after the movie when I’m procrastinating cleaning the house :)

Happy Birthday Dad

Friday, December 19th, 2003

So even though I know he won’t read it, I wanted to say happy birthday to my dad, since it’s after midnight in Florida.

In other news, I finally finished painting the bathroom today (it only took 4 coats and 2 months to do) and it looks pretty good. Slowly but surely the house is looking how I want it to.

I just got off the phone with my Mother-in-law and I was pondering the nature of relationships. She’e going through a divorce and we actually talked for quite a while. It was the first time (in the almost 10 years I’be been with her son) that she’s opened up to me and it was good to know that she considers me close enough to vent to. It was nice to talk to her.

This weekend I’m not planning on doing anything productive, just wrapping the last of the xmas presents and spending some time with Jon. If I think of anything amusing I’ll write again.

The End of the Madness

Wednesday, December 17th, 2003

So Jon and I went to see “Return of the King” at midnight, and all I can say is after 3 and a half hours surrounded by sweaty geeks, I feel like I trekked up Mount Doom to throw that damn ring in the fire. All in all I enjoyed the movie, but pretty much every scene could have been like 10 minutes shorter. It was more of an endurance test than a movie. Oh well, it was fun anyways. I’m really excited to see “Chronicles of Riddick” (there was a preview before the movie) and “Hidalgo.” There was also a preview for “Spiderman 2″ which looked ok. I can’t imagine sitting through all 3 Lord of the Rings movies in a row, I guess I’m not as a hardcore a geek as I thought I was :)

Day of the Doozers

Tuesday, December 16th, 2003

So Jon and I were talking about old tv shows today, and he swore that I’d told him that Fraggle Rock was like my favorite show when I was little. This of course was not true, since I don’t really remember seeing it at all. He mentioned the little guys on the show called doozers, who apparently were 6 in tall and green, and liked to build things. I (being a fan of little and cute) went on the internet in search of a picture of said doozers. Lo and behold, they are like the cutest things in the world. I think I might have to track down some old Fraggle Rock episodes to see them in action :)

New from Japan

So we were at Uwajimaya last night, and I was browsing in the snack isle when I saw something very exciting…a new kind of Pocky! I know, I was amazed too. They’re called Pocky G and according to the package they’re both hard and rich. Of course, I had to buy some. I haven’t tried them yet, but I plan on it after dinner. I’ll let everyone know how it turns out :)

What I’m Going to Be When I Grow Up

Monday, December 8th, 2003

So I was looking through a Pastry Art and Design magazine about a week ago, and I noticed an ad for the Western Culinary Institute, which is in Portland. When Jon and I first moved out here, I had looked the school’s website to see if they had a Baking and Pastry program (I’ve thought about being a pastry chef since I was like 7) but they didn’t. So on Tues. night, I went back to the website and discovered that they now have a Baking and Pastry program. I was pretty excited, and I sent them an email asking for more info. I was pretty impressed; I got a call back the next day and I went for a tour of the school on Friday. It was so cool. I figured, what the hell, this is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, so I applied. I got a call back today letting me know that I’ve been accepted. I start in April, and I’ll be done at the end of December. I can’t wait!
