Busy Busy Busy

Tuesday, July 20th, 2004

So as everyone probably noticed, I haven’t been posting as much as of late, mostly because I’ve been pretty busy with work and school. I know that’s no excuse, but it’s the truth. Anyways, not much has been going on, nothing major anyways. On Saturday night, we went to see a play that a friend of mine from class was in. It was wierd to see her in clothing that didn’t involve unflattering chef’s pants and a jacket. But despite the wardrobe, the play was really enjoyable.

On a related note, Erin (the friend in the play) had her birthday yesterday, so happy belated birthday Erin!

I think we’re going to go back to WI over my summer break (the 2nd week of August). It’ll be nice to see some of my friends from back home again and eat at all my favorite restaurants.

This is kind of a disjointed entry…but I’m too tired and lazy to change it. I’ll try to write again before the end of the week though if anything of note happens.

Catching Up

So I haven’t written in a week, and it’s been kind of an eventful week at that, so I’ll do a quick synopsis before we head to the beach for the day. Jon is finished with college (finally!) and I’m very proud of him. I knew that he would do it eventually, but I know it’s been hard for him juggling work and school. So way to go sweetheart.

In other Jon-related news, our 5th anniversary was on Wed. I skipped class (naughty naughty) and we went to the Japanese garden. It was really pretty and not too crowded. Then we went to Portland City Grill for dinner. The food was awesome, although they went a little crazy with the wasabi on the sushi. I had banana eclairs (actually they were round, so they weren’t really eclairs, but you know what I mean) for dessert, and they were pretty good, all things considered. I made Jon order dessert too, since I wanted to try the homemade cookies that they bake to order. The white chocolate macadamia nut cookies were really good, but the chocolate crinkle cookies were too sweet and not chocolatey enough. But it was ok, I was too stuffed to really want them anyways.

As I mentioned before, we’re headed to the coast today with our friends that live next door. Hopefully it’ll be nice there, and not too windy. If anything of note happens I’ll write more when I get back.

Happy 4th of July

So I put the pictures from the plated dessert practical up in the gallery. They can be found here. Hope everyone enjoys them.

Happy 4th of July to all my faithful readers and friends. Hope you have a great holiday weekend.

Yay for the Weekend

So the plated dessert practical is over and I must say that it’s a relief to be done, despite the fact that I keep thinking of ways that I could have made my stuff better. Oh well, I ended up getting an A-, half a point away from an A, so its ok. I’ll still get an A in the class, so my 4.0 stands. I’ll have some pics up later tonight or maybe tomorrow. Overall it went pretty well, all the critiques I got were valid, and since I finished mine on Wednesday, I had 2 days to fool around and make whatever I wanted. I ended up making chocolate eclairs and chocolate cherry cookies yesterday and today I made cobbler, chocolate mousse, and french toast for everyone for breakfast.

I had an externship interview on tuesday that went really well. I’m going to be baking for a catering company in SE Portland. I’m really excited about it, it seems like I’ll learn a lot, and it’s paid, which is really cool since I won’t be working 40 hours a week for free.

We’re going to see Spiderman tonight; I’ve heard good things so hopefully I’ll enjoy it. Other than that, I don’t know what our plans are for the 3 day weekend. I work tomorrow from 5-10 am (ah the hours of a baker) and on Monday afternoon, but other than that not much is going on. Maybe we’ll go up to Fort Vancouver for the fireworks again this year.
